Keys to Successful Saltwater Fishing

Dale Salmonese served as a career counselor and crew member with the US Coast Guard from 2000 to 2005. Also a retired pharmacist, Dale Salmonese enjoys saltwater fishing in his spare time.

There are a few tricks of the trade that can help to achieve a productive saltwater fishing outing. Special lures, such as the bucktail jig hop, are likely to captivate the attention of the fish and increase the chances that they will bite.

In addition to using special lures, a saltwater fisherman must be able to read the surf. For instance, a shoreline that has a rocky section will contain baitfish and crustaceans. The presence of these types of sea life increases the chance that bass also will be present.

Although saltwater fishing is usually associated with larger boats, it is possible to use smaller boats in good weather. The most important things to remember about saltwater fishing are to know what you are fishing for and to have the proper fishing equipment.
